18 Sports...ONE TEAM
QUARTERBACK. COXSWAIN. GOALIE. GUARD. PITCHER. RUNNER. TENNIS PLAYER. GOLFER.
Every TU athlete is a member of one team ...The Golden Hurricane.
The University of Tulsa's athletic tradition is more than 100 years old and growing stronger every day. From the pioneering athletes who played football for Henry Kendall College to the rowers who are putting the word "regatta" in the TU vocabulary, the Golden Hurricane is TU's winning team. And the Golden Hurricane Club is TU's biggest cheering squad.
As a member of the Golden Hurricane Club, your generosity supports 18 intercollegiate athletic programs and one team, The Golden Hurricane.
Your partnership helps to provide every TU student-athlete with a world-class athletic and academic experience. The cost of outfitting our players as athletes and scholars continues to increase. During the 2006-2007 academic year, for example, nearly $10 million of the TU Athletic Department's $18 million operating budget was designated in support of the student-athlete experience. This includes equipment, uniforms, game travel, academic support, enrichment activities, insurance, and much more.
The University of Tulsa is committed to the continued development of a broad-based athletics program - and that commitment is the foundation of the Golden Hurricane Club's efforts.
Every contribution to the Golden Hurricane Club is an investment in the lives of the young men and women who represent TU with talent, determination, and pride. Every contribution to the Golden Hurricane Club is also a vote of confidence in ONE TEAM, whether our players are in the classroom - or on the fields, courts, courses, and waterways of competition.
Golden Hurricane Club Mission:
The Golden Hurricane Club is an association of fans of The University of Tulsa who promote and support intercollegiate athletics through participation at games, events and in fundraising activities in order to strengthen athletic department programs and achieve excellence in all sports.
Golden Hurricane Club History:
The Golden Hurricane Club has been the backbone of efforts to support the athletic department at The University of Tulsa since 1930, when it was founded by local business and community leaders in downtown Tulsa. Its original mission included funding uniforms for the marching band, securing a trained drum-major, organizing a cheer squad and selling football tickets. In 1976, the club was relocated to the TU campus and renamed the Tulsa Hurricane Club. Another name change occurred in 1987 when the club became known as it is today: the Golden Hurricane Club.
In recent years, The University of Tulsa has made a strong financial commitment to intercollegiate athletics and now subsidizes 135 athletic grants-in-aid (scholarships) each year. The Golden Hurricane Club supports the non-scholarship needs - such as travel, equipment, recruiting, student insurance and academic support - of each of our 18 intercollegiate athletic programs.
