TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa is asking fans to wear Golden Hurricane gear on Friday, August 31 to celebrate the eighth annual College Colors Day.

Fans are encouraged to wear any blue and gold apparel that represents TU ranging from hats, earrings, T-shirts, ties, jerseys and anything in-between. The celebration arrives on the eve of the college football season, as the following day Tulsa hits the gridiron in Ames, Iowa, to face the Iowa State Cyclones in a 2:30 p.m. tilt.

College Colors Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that embody the college experience by encouraging fans across America to wear their favorite college or university apparel throughout the day. Since its inception in 2005, College Colors Day has grown rapidly around the nation and strives to promote higher education through increased public awareness.

The event marks the end of the Pledge Your Allegiance for College Colors Day competition, where fans were encouraged to vote on espn.com/collegecolorsday to demonstrate their school pride. The contest featured 165 participating colleges and universities from around the nation.

TU fans that are looking for new Golden Hurricane gear can stop by the campus bookstore, a local retailer or the online shop (http://shop.tulsahurricane.com) to get decked out for the big day.

Fans can visit collegecolorsday.com to find more information about the event and ideas on a game plan to celebrate the holiday. Businesses are also encouraged to register their company as a participant in the big event, and can find ideas on how to participate on the College Colors Day Website.
