Student-Athlete of the Week Week of August 20 - 26

Junior Claire Nicholson (Women's Soccer) has maintained a 3.738 grade-point average in exercise and sports science. The Overland Park, Kan., native scored her second career hat trick against Nicholls State on Sunday. Nicholson scored her first goal in the 39th minutes to give Tulsa a 4-0 lead heading into halftime. Her second goal came at the 70:27 mark and her third goal occurred in the 83rd minute. Overall, Nicholson tallied five shots, which all of them were on goal. Nicholson was named to the Tulsa Dean's List and was a C-USA Academic Medalist as a freshman and sophomore. Last year, she was selected to the C-USA All-Academic soccer team.

MEN'S SOCCER (1-0, 0-0 C-USA)

Beat UMKC 4-0 (TU scored four goals in the final 22 minutes of the game to defeat UMKC 4-0. Jake Dobkins punched in the game-winner in the 68th minute as freshman defender Marcus Jordan picked up the assist. Just over 10 minutes later freshman Bryce Follensbee of Orlando, Fla., recorded his first career goal as he went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and scored from the right side while fellow freshman Cristian Mata recorded his first career goal at the 82:40 mark. In the 87th minute Follensbee added his second goal of the evening.)

WOMEN'S SOCCER (2-1, 0-0 C-USA)

Lost to #13 Notre Dame 2-0 (Tulsa opened its weekend dropping a 2-0 decision to 13th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday night in front of a record 1,707 fans at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. Claire Hulcer and Rebecca Handley each had two shots to lead the Golden Hurricane attack.)

Defeated Nicholls State 7-0 (Tulsa rebounded on Sunday as Claire Nicholson came in off the bench and recorded her second career hat trick as Tulsa dominated Nicholls State, 7-0. Claire Nicholson tallied her second career hat trick with goals in the 39th, 70th and 83rd minutes of the match. Camille Pelley scored the first goal 54 seconds into the match, and Pelley and Stephanie Aitken each collected two goals.)

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL (2-1, 0-0 C-USA)

Beat Western Michigan 3-0, (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) (Tyler Henderson tallied 28 kills to propel The University of Tulsa volleyball squad to a sweep over Western Michigan. TU claimed its fifth-straight season opening victory in the first ever matchup between the two squads. In the match, Henderson had an attack percentage of .571 to pace the Hurricane.)

Defeated Missouri State 3-0, (25-22, 25-14 25-22 ) (Junior Kellie Culbertson collected 12 digs and 10 kills, while senior Tyler Henderson added 17 kills as Tulsa gathered its first victory against Missouri State in program history. Culbtertson put up an attack percentage of .259 and also had three service aces on the match. Libero Jessica Adams added 16 digs, while Diana Silva recorded 12 digs and five kills.)

Lost to Oklahoma 2-3 (25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 12-15) (Tyler Henderson scored 29 kills and Kellie Culbertson and Diana Silva each tallied double-doubles, but the Golden Hurricane fell to the Sooners in five sets. Henderson, who hit .300 in the match, and Jessica Adams, who led the Golden Hurricane with 25 digs, were selected to the Nike Invitational All-Tournament team.)
