A two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection at center, he began his career at Tulsa as a fullback. Was a superb blocker on offense and a stalwart linebacker on defense. On his first offensive play for Tulsa, he scored on a three-yard touchdown run against the Oklahoma A&M Aggies. Was a workhorse for the Golden Hurricane, logging 382 minutes during the 1945 season, the same year he led the team in interceptions with four pickoffs for 85 return yards. Played on the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Oil Bowl teams. Was selected Defensive Player of the Game in the Oil Bowl.
