Was a four-year letterwinner in football and lettered three times in baseball. Was an outstanding guard and only one of two players to make the varsity football team as a true freshman in 1946, helping that team post a 9-1 record. Served as team captain in 1949 and helped lead Tulsa to one of the school’s biggest upsets with a win over Villanova. Named Tulsa’s Outstanding Lineman for the 1949 season. Returned to Tulsa as an assistant football coach and head baseball coach for two seasons, posting 28 victories. Later served as general manager for the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders and was vice-president and assistant general manager for the Detroit Lions.
