Class of 1984 By setting virtually all the NCAA passing records in 1963 and `64, he secured his reputation as a superb passer. Was selected as an All-America quarterback by United Press International and Football Writers Association, and was the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 1964. Threw for 4,779 yards and 42 touchdowns in his career. As a senior, he passed for 2,870 yards and 32 TDs, while throwing 198 passes without an interception that season. Led the Golden Hurricane to a victory over Mississippi in the Bluebonnet Bowl. Was voted Associated Press Back of the Year his senior season. Had his jersey No. 17 retired. He went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys. |
