Jaysen T. Spencer joined the Golden Hurricane Student Services staff as an Academic Coordinator in October 2012. Spencer comes to TU with over eight years of experience in student-athlete support services with stints at Villanova, Western Carolina, Missouri and New Mexico. The Warren, Ohio native works directly with the Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country and Softball teams. Prior to coming to Tulsa, Spencer was the Assistant Director of the Lobo Center for Student-Athlete Success at the University of New Mexico. At UNM, he was responsible for monitoring academic progress and NCAA eligibility for the Lobo Football Team. Previously, Spencer spent four years as an Academic Coordinator at the University of Missouri. While at Missouri, he oversaw the academic support services for Football, Women's Soccer and Women's Gymnastics. In addition to his sport responsibilities, Spencer was also charged with planning both the New Student-Athlete and New Football Player Orientations. Spencer also served two years as the Coordinator of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at Western Carolina University where he provided academic counseling and support for over 300 student-athletes representing 16 sports. Furthermore, he assisted in the coordination and implementation of academic, personal development and career development programing for the Catamount CHAMPS/Life Skills program. Spencer is a 2006 graduate of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) Professional Development Institute (PDI) as well as a 2010 graduate of the prestigious NCAA Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females. Spencer is also a certified and active member of the N4A, where he serves on the Ethnic Concerns Committee. Spencer graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a concentration in Sport Management and a Master of Arts degree in Exercise, Leisure and Sport from Kent State University. Spencer and his wife Raylicia have 3 children, Makenzie, Malachi and Sydney. |
