Position:
Asst. Athletics Dir./Academic Services

Michael Stevenson came to The University of Tulsa in 1994. He has served as director of academic services and was promoted to assistant athletics director in June 2003.

He is responsible for all aspects of Tulsa's academic support program for student-athletes. The academic success TU student-athletes have enjoyed since Stevenson joined the athletic department in 1994 has been outstanding.

Since 1995, 28 student-athletes have earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America first-, second- or third-team honors in their particular sport. In 2005-06, Tulsa had a Conference USA best four student-athletes named as the C-USA Scholar Athlete of the Year for their particular sport.

In September 2002, TU was the only school to be ranked among the top-10 in all three USA Today/NCAA Academic Achievement Awards categories: overall 1995 freshman student-athlete graduation rate; percentage-point difference between graduation rate of athletes and student body; and, percentage-point improvement from the freshman entering in 1994. Tulsa had an 80-percent graduation rate to rank 10th, placed ninth with a graduation rate 19 percent better than the overall student population; and, a 23 percent increase from the freshman class of 1994 ranked the Hurricane second in that category.

Stevenson came to Tulsa following eight years as an academic advisor at Tulsa Junior College. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in sociology from The University of Tulsa in 1986.

He is a member of the National Association of Athletic Academic Advisors (NAAAA) and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Stevenson is a native of Chicago, Illinois.
