Was a powerful runner who rushed for 2,597 yards and 18 touchdowns during his collegiate career. Led the nation in rushing yards in the 1952 season with 1,372 yards for an average of 8.4 yards per carry. Rushed for 1,118 yards for a 6.8 average as a junior in 1951. Was twice named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference teams. In 26 career games, he averaged 7.4 yards per carry and had 10 games rushing for over 100 yards. Twice rushed for over 200 yards in a single game, gaining 250 yards vs. Arkansas in 1952 and 216 yards vs. Houston in the 1951 season.
