
Jason West came to The University of Tulsa in September 1999 as assistant director for media relations. Before coming to Tulsa, West was the sports information director at Cameron University for three years, where he worked with CU's eight sports. The Aggies won the program's first ever Lone Star Conference Championship in 1998, a feat West witnessed as the play-by-play announcer. While in Lawton, West also served as a member of the Lawton Chamber of Commerce Sports Promotion Committee for three years, also serving as the committee's chairman prior to leaving. After graduating from Oklahoma City University, West was employed as the sports information director at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla. At NWOSU, West oversaw five sports for the Rangers, including its nationally-ranked football and men's basketball teams. West returned to his alma mater to work in the Instituional Advancement Office as a communications writer, prior to moving to Lawton. During his tenure at OCU, West was a student assistant in the sports information department. In addition to working as an on-air statistician for ESPN, ESPN2 and the Houston Rockets' radio team, West was a part of the Chief's 63-game winning streak, which still stands as one of the longest in NAIA Men's Basketball history. He earned his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma City University in 1995. Recently, West was asked to write a professional sidebar for the textbook Sport Public Relations:Managing Organizational Communications. He is married to the former Audra Roles. The couple lives in Tulsa with their young son. |
