The University of Tulsa's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recognized its teams and student-athletes on Tuesday, April 30 at the school's 18th Annual Golden Cane All-Sports Awards Gala at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Co-hosted by the TU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (TUSAAC), the Golden Hurricane Club and the TU Lettermen's Association, the event showcases the many accomplishments of all TU student-athletes, team managers, and athletic trainers for their achievements on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.
The Golden Hanger Award, presented to rowing student-athlete Molly Selig and football student-athlete Brentom Todd as the evening's best-dressed student-athletes.
In a special presentation, it was also announced that the Athletic Performance Center in the Donald W. Reynolds will be rededicated as the George S. Mauerman Sports Medicine Center in honor of longtime team physician, Dr. George Mauerman.
Guests in attendance at the annual awards gala enjoyed live musical performances by TU student-athletes Aaron Thornburg (men's cross country/track & field), Jocelyn Sheffield (softball) and Rachel Perry (women's rowing) and Michael Mudoh (football). For the first time this year's ceremony was streamed live online on www.TulsaHurricane.com.

The "Ultimate Team" honors those athletes who, during the current academic year, have exemplified those qualities and characteristics that are consistent with the missions and values of The University of Tulsa. The qualities and characteristics considered include academic success, campus involvement, community outreach, athletic participation and other areas of student involvement.
Outstanding Team Community Service Award: Women's Rowing
The Outstanding Team Community Service Award is given to the team most involved in community service activities throughout the year, and is selected by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The rowing team turned in a total of 1,279 volunteer hours over the course of the 2012-13 academic year, which is an average of almost 26 hours per squad member. A few of the organizations and causes they contributed to include the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Habitat for Humanity, the Tulsa Zoo and Sequoyah and Kendall Whittier Elementary Schools.
Faculty Member of the Year: Dr. Robert H. Donaldson
Tulsa student-athletes, through the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, select a Faculty Member of the Year.
Wilson Holloway Ultimate Service Award: Ashley Beasley (Athletic Training) & Eric Harper (Football Equipment Manager)
The "Ultimate Service" award was established to recognize the efforts of student support staff for service to the teams and student-athletes. The selection of this individual is based on academic success, campus involvement, community outreach, and service-oriented participation in athletics or other areas of student involvement.
Dan Bitson Courage Award: Tiffani Couisnard (Women's Basketball), James Keilbart (Men's Cross Country/Track & Field, & Kodi Maduka (Men's Basketball)
The Dan Bitson Courage Award was established in 1992 in the name of former TU football standout Dan Bitson (1986-91) who fought back from severe injuries suffered in an automobile accident to play football again. The award is presented annually to the TU student-athlete who exemplifies courage, perseverance and tenacity for overcoming adversity.
Warren Garrison Academic Excellence Award: Jake Dobkins (Men's Soccer) & Will LePage (Men's Cross Country/Track & Field)
The Warren Garrison Academic Excellence Award goes to the graduating senior who has completed his or her eligibility with the highest cumulative grade point average. The award is named in honor of Tulsa's first athletic academic coordinator and longtime Golden Hurricane Club member Warren Garrison.
