Game Notes vs. South Carolina
Tulsa's 13th-ranked and fifth-seeded men's soccer team will take on fourth-seeded South Carolina in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 13th. Game time is set for 2:00 pm at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, N.C.
In the eight-year history of the Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship, Tulsa has tallied a 13-3-2 overall record in the tournament. The Golden Hurricane won the tournament in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2012, and also played in the title game in 2005 and 2010.
TU (9-5-3, 4-3-2 C-USA) ranks among the nation's top-50 teams in five categories this season, including 26th in scoring offense (1.82), 30th in total goals (31), 31st in points per game (5.12), 38th in total points (87) and 48th in won-lost-tied percentage (.618).
Cristian Mata leads the way for Tulsa, scoring 10 goals and adding six assists for 26 points. Akeil Barrett has scored six goals and has a team-high seven assists for 19 points, while Kyle Cumings has recorded four goals. Bryce Follensbee, Omar Mata and Tony Rocha have each added three goals.
Cody Mumma has played in eight games for a total of 719:29 minutes in goal, 25 saves and four shutouts this year. Jake McGuire has logged 890:57 in 10 games for 32 saves and two shutouts.
South Carolina has a 7-6-5 overall record and posted a 4-2-3 mark in Conference USA. The Gamecocks are led by Jeffrey Torda and Mahamoudou Kaba with five goals apiece, while J.P. Rafferty and Eli Dent have tallied three goals each. Marco Velez has logged the majority of minutes in goal, picked up 49 saves and has four shutouts on the year.
The Golden Hurricane has a 7-5-2 advantage in the all-time series with the Gamecocks, including a 2-1 overtime win earlier this season in Columbia, S.C.
