IRVING, Texas -
Sophomore Alejandro Espejo was named the Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today.
This marks the first time that Espejo has won the award during his Tulsa career, and second time this season a Tulsa player has earned the accolade.
Espejo won his fourth straight singles match on Friday night against Arkansas as the sophomore dispatched Mike Ward, 6-4, 6-4, while playing No. 3 singles. As a whole, the Hurricane, ranked No. 17 in the ITA Rankings, roared back after losing the doubles point to defeat the No. 51 Razorbacks 6-1.
"We are very proud of Ale," commented Head Coach Vince Westbrook. "He has come a long way this year. He is making a big difference at No. 1 doubles for us playing with Cliff Marsland, and he is playing very well at No. 3 singles. By the end of the year, he should have a high national ranking if he keeps improving and performing at a high level."
The Tulsa men's tennis team will take its talents to College Station, Texas, to face Texas A&M on Friday, Feb. 22.
