Positive Results Abound At Meyo Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Tulsa track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Meyo Invitational Saturday at Loftus Sports Center. "This was a great day for us," Tulsa Head Track Coach Steve Gulley said. "We had great results from top to bottom and I was extremely pleased with how everyone competed today. This meet will hopefully give both the men and women a lot of confidence going forward." The best finish of the day came from junior Julian Frazier, who finished third in the 400m dash with a mark of 47.36. His time broke his own personal best set earlier this year, and he also ran the third-fastest time in school history and the 21st-best mark in the NCAA this year. Junior Andrew Heyes competed in the Meyo Mile and finished fourth with a mark of 4:02.08. His time just missed out on cracking the top five list in school history, but it was good for 22nd-best in the nation this year. Senior Justin Smith finished fifth in the 200m with a time of 21.75. His mark was good for third-best in school history. Junior Sam Masters was sixth in the 3,000m Run Ryan Shay 3K. He also recorded the third-fastest mark in Tulsa history and the 38th-best mark in the nation so far this year. Seniors Bill Martin (12th in 8:12.70) and Paulo Pinheiro (16th in 8:17.73) also posted personal bests in the event. The 4x400m relay team of Smith, Frazier, junior Alex Sementelli and freshman Bryce Cason finished eighth in 3:15.58, which was the fourth-best mark in school history.
Four of the five Tulsa runners who competed in the collegiate mile ran personal bests, headlined by freshman Nathan Barrett's 15th-place time of 4:14.98. Fellow freshmen Tim Rackers (17th in 4:15.12) and Aaron Thornburg (34th in 4:22.94), along with sophomore Danny Thater (27th n 4:17.78) also posted PR's. Junior Done Vermaak led the charge for the women with her fifth-place finish in the 800m run. She posted a time of 2:10.00, which was the fourth-fastest mark in school history and the 36th-best time in the NCAA so far this year. Tulsa's 4x400m relay placed sixth in 3:45.56. The team consisted of Vermaak running the anchor, senior Racquell Powell, junior Caroline Schuster and sophomore Katherine Camp. Sophomore Josie Wilcox (10:02.27) and junior Ashley Scott (10:02.74) finished 9-10 in the 3,000m run. All three members of the Golden Hurricane who competed in the 200m dash posted PR's. Powell led the charge with a mark of 25.30 to finish 23rd, while sophomore Audrey Jean-Baptiste was 59th in 25.98 and Camp was 60th in 26.06.
