Heyes Runs Second-Fastest 3K In School History

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Tulsa track and field teams completed competition at the Tyson Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Randal Tyson Track Complex.
Junior Andrew Heyes finished sixth in the 3,000-Meter Run Championship. His time of 8:00.29 was the second-fastest in school history.
The men's 4x400m Relay team also posted the second-best mark in school history with a time of 3:14.83 to finish 10th. The team consisted of seniors Justin Smith and David Fitter, and juniors Julian Frazier and Matt Davis.
Sophomore Danny Thater finished 17th in the 800m run with a PR mark of 1:53.76.
Junior Done Vermaak placed eighth in the 800m Run Olympic Development, and her mark of 2:09.25 was the fourth-fastest in school history. Sophomore Lauren Collette placed third in the 800m run with a personal-best time of 2:12.91.
All three women who competed in the 200m dash posted PR's. Senior Racquell Powell led the charge with a time of 25.21 to finish 44th.
The Conference USA Championships are next for the Golden Hurricane. The teams will travel to Birmingham, Ala., Feb. 25-26 and will be looking to equal last year's efforts, as both teams finished runner up.
