Tulsa senior Chris O'Hare shattered the collegiate mile record at the 106^th Millrose Games clocking a time of 3:52.98 in the Wanamaker Mile Saturday night at The Armory.

O'Hare's time of 3:52.98 obliterated the time of 3:54.54 set last year at the Millrose Games by BYU's Miles Batty. O'Hare's mark also is the second fastest time by a British athlete, and shattered his old personal best of 3:56.48, which also happened to be the school record.

"Its fantastic," O'Hare commented. "It is a great honor to be associated with such great athletes that have held that record in the past, and the great athletes that will hold it in the future. I was grateful to run in such a high-profile meet, and I was ecstatic to get that time to set the collegiate record."

O'Hare earned a fourth-place showing going up against some of the world's best athletes, including race-winner Lopez Lomong, a two time USA Outdoor 1,500-meter champion, Matthew Centrowitz, a 2011 World Outdoor bronze medalist and Olympian Ciaran O'Lionaird.

"It is a great experience to run against such great athletes," O'Hare stated. "I'm glad I had the honor and opportunity to run against them, and was happy I made the most of it."

"I'm proud of Chris," commented Head Coach Steve Gulley. "We feel fortunate that he represented the University in such a high standard today. He went out today and ran the fastest collegiate mile in history, which is a hard thing to grasp."

The race, along with the rest of the Millrose Games will be re-aired tomorrow on ESPN with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. CT.
