O'HARE, ROBINSON ADVANCE TO FINALS AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 8, 2013
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Chris O'Hare, the reigning NCAA title holder in the mile, and freshman Bryce Robinson, Tulsa's school record holder in the 60-meter dash, advanced to the finals of the mile and 60-meter dash, respectively, at the 2013 Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center. O'Hare had the second best time in his heat of 4:01.76, which was the sixth fastest time during the preliminary round. The top four from each heat and the next two fastest runners advanced to the finals. The men's mile final, which will take place tomorrow at 6:10 p.m., features a rematch of the three collegians that competed at the 106th edition of the Millrose Games in February. In the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games, O'Hare shattered the collegiate record in the indoor mile clocking in at 3:52.98 while competing against Arizona's Lawi Lalang and North Carolina State's Ryan Hill. "It was a good heat," O'Hare commented. "I didn't know what to expect and who was going to take it. Lawi and Ryan looked good in their prelim. It is going to be a good final tomorrow." This marks the third time that O'Hare has advanced to the finals of the mile. In 2011, O'Hare finished runner-up in the event, while he won the race in 2012. Robinson, competing in the second heat of the 60-meter dash, had to visit the starting blocks three times, as a false start occurred on the race's first try, and the second try was halted with a potential false start, which after reviewing replay wasn't found. The third try was the charm for the competitors and Robinson, as the former Edmond Memorial prep star was third in the heat with a time of 6.64. That time was the sixth fastest in the round, and earned the freshman a spot in the finals. "During the two false starts, I ran 40 meters each time," Robinson said. "It was pretty tiring, but it kind of helped me out as I had two bad starts. The third start was my best start." The 60-meter dash finals will take place tomorrow at 7:10 p.m. Both O'Hare and Robinson's races will be aired live on ESPN3, with coverage on ESPN3 beginning at 6 p.m. Dwight Stones, Lewis Johnson and Lolo Jones will be on the call.
