Stones Breaks School Record On First Day Of Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - Carl Stones set the school record in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase on the opening day of the Mt. SAC Relays late Thursday night at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
The junior member of The University of Tulsa track and field teams finished fourth in the Olympic Elite heat in a time of 8:50.12.
Stone's previous best was 8:58.43, which he ran last season. Owain Matthews, who posted an 8:51.58 in 2003, held the school record.
Senior Lewis Timmins finished 13th in the Elite section of the 10,000 meters with a time of 29:26.64. His mark was the second fastest in school history.
Sophomore Mitch Johnson finished second in his section of the 10,000 meters to finish 14th overall out of 72 competåitors in the Open U/O division. His mark of 29:56.68 was the third-fastest time in school history.
The rest of the Golden Hurricane that traveled to California will wrap up competition late tonight, and senior Kelsey Klein will kickoff competition for Tulsa at the John Jacobs Invitational tonight in Norman, Okla.
