Martin Wins 1,500 At John McDonnell Invitational

Complete Results | Complete Results FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Bill Martin won the 1,500 meter run to pace the Golden Hurricane track and field teams at the 2012 John McDonnell Invitational Saturday at John McDonnell Field. Martin won the event in a personal-best time of 3:46.11. Sophomore Danny Thater finished fifth in the event in 3:46.74, and the top six finishers were all within .86 of each other. Tulsa's 4x400m relay team finished third in 3:12.72. The team consisted of seniors Justin Smith and David Fitter, and juniors Julian Frazier and Matt Davis. Frazier placed fourth in the 400m dash with a mark of 47.12, which was the second-best time in school history. Smith was sixth in the 200m dash in 21.55. Sophomore Emmett Cookson was sixth in the 3,000m Steeplechase, and his time of 9:22.22 was fourth fastest in school history. Freshman Chase Sammons was fourth in the discus (47.76m), fifth in the hammer (43.91m) and seventh in the shot put (15.40m). WOMEN Freshman Hartly Carlisle was fifth in the discus with a toss of in 43.16m. She also was seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 41.58m, which was the fourth-best mark in school history. Junior Done Vermaak finished seventh in the 800m with a personal-best mark of 2:10.77. Sophomore Katherine Camp was eighth in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:04.30. Tulsa's 4x400m Relay team finished fifth in 3:47.74. The team consisted of Vermaak, senior Racquell Powell, junior Caroline Schuster and sophomore Audrey Jean-Baptiste. The Golden Hurricane will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, on April 26-28 for the Drake Relays.
