Houston, Texas - The University of Tulsa's track and field teams sent a combined 10 runners to Saturday finals and added four other top three finishes on day two of the Conference USA Championships in Houston, Texas.

In the preliminary events for the women, the 1,500m was the most successful , with Alex Becker and Marissa Saunders advancing to the final with times of 4:37.47 and 4:40.19, respectively.

Chantelle Willard moved on in the 200m with a run of 24.19, while Shameka Holloway followed in kind with a time of 54.97 in the 400m.

Dawn Nagazina turned in a run of 2:11.72 to advance in the 800m, while April Montgomery used a preliminary best time of 1:01.39 in the 400m hurdles to move on.

The women's final the Hurricane saw action in was the 3,000m steple chase where Ashlea Gilfillan set a new school record with a second place time of 10:45.92.

In the women's field event, Stephanie Jeffers posted a second place finish in the shot put with a throw of 50-4.0, while Katy McGillen added a third place finish in the javelin with a mark of 156-8, good for second on the TU all-time list.

For the men, Rickey Wilson got off to a good start in defending his hurdles championships, moving to the final in both the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles with times of 14.68 and 54.43, respectively.

Atilla Keresi posted a run of 47.82 in the 400m to move on, while Jordan Hughes followed in the 800m with a run of 1:53.61.

 

 

The men saw two running finals, with Joel Stansloski turning in a 9:26.83 in the 3,000m steeple chase to finish fourth.

In the 10,000m, three Tulsa runners grabbed top-5 finishes with Stansloski grabbing a third place finish in 31:01.89, while Brett Turowski followed in fourth and Eric Harris in fifth with times of 31.09.32 and 31:19.50, respectively.

In the field events, Kyle McGillen grabbed a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 22-4.50.

Corey Pixley scored 5,935 points in the decathlon to finish sixth, while Thomas Stoltz picked up a seventh place finish in the javelin with a throw of 179-11.

Action at the C-USA Championships will wrap up on Saturday in Houston, Texas.
