C-USA Championship Central | Saturday Results

Orlando, Fla. - The Tulsa men's track and field team is in fourth place and the women's team sits in seventh place heading into the final day of competition at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the UCF Track and Soccer Complex.

The men's team has 40 points after eight completed events, trailing first-place Houston who leads the field with 64 points. The women's team has 21 points after seven events, trailing SMU's first-place total of 50 points.

Carl Stones claimed the silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday with a personal-best time of 9:02.13, marking the third time this season that he has set a new personal record in the event. Stones' mark is also the second-fastest time in school history.

Caitlin Clancy finished fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.47 meters (11-04.50).

Kelsey Klein placed 13th in the discus with a toss of 37.67m (123-07), followed by teammate Morgan Bolom in 14th place with a mark of 36.23m (118-10). A day after winning the heptathlon, Lydia Chamberlin finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 5.71m (18-09.00).

Alex Sementelli posted a mark of 6.47 meters (21-02.75) to finish 14th in the men's long jump.

The rest of Saturday's action was preliminary running events for tomorrow's finals. The Hurricane had a total of 10 athletes advance in six events, led by Tayler Rigsby who leads the women's 800m field with a qualifying time of 2:09.02. Katie Wright also qualified for the finals with a time of 2:12.62.

 

 

Wright will run in the 1,500m finals after clocking the second-fastest prelim time of 4:32.71, followed by teammate Melanie Cleland who advanced to the finals in 4:33.26. Jennifer Mace ran the third-fastest time in the 400m prelims (54.39) to advance to the finals on Sunday.

Julian Frazier qualified in the 400m in 47.66, as did teammate Matt Davis with a personal-best time of 48.35. Steven Morrow and Justin Duncan advanced to the 800m finals with times of 1:53.04 and 1:54.56, respectively.

David Fitter will run in the 400-meter hurdles finals after qualifying with a time of 54.05.

The 2010 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship finishes on Sunday at the UCF Track and Soccer Complex.
