Camp Repeats as C-USA Champion in 800-Meter Run on Final Day Sunday

HOUSTON, Texas - For the second consecutive year, senior Katherine Camp of the University of Tulsa women's track and field team won the Conference USA 800-meter run, by over a second, with a time of 2:09.09 on the final day of the C-USA Outdoor Championships on Sunday.

The Golden Hurricane finished in fifth place in both men's and women's rankings. The men's team finished with 62 points, while the women's team finished with 60 points.

Tulsa recorded nine top-three finishes in the final rounds during the championships, including six on Sunday. The winner in each final event receives first-team accolades, while the runner-up receives second-team accolades and the third place finisher receives third-place accolades.

On the men's side, the Golden Hurricane had six top-three finishers, led by sophomore Bryce Robinson, who finished second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 100-meter dash on Sunday. Freshman Elijah Silva finished second in the 800-meter run on Sunday, while junior Danny Thater finished second in the 5,000-meter run on Sunday and second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Saturday. Sophomore Alex Lybarger finished third in the hammer throw on Friday.

On the women's side, the Golden Hurricane had three top-three finishers with Camp's 800-meter win on Sunday, senior Audrey Jean-Baptiste's second place finish in the 400-meter run on Sunday and freshman Clara Langley's second place finish on Friday.

On the men's side, Robinson finished third in the 100 meters with a time of 10.54 and finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.06.

Senior Julian Frazier finished sixth in the 400-meter dash final round with a time of 47.68, while freshman Elijah Silva finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:49.52.

Sophomore Jake McDonnell finished 10th in the 1,500-meter run final round with a time of 3:55.20 and junior Aaron Thornburg finished 11th with a time of 4:01.34.

Thater finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:25.31, while senior Dennis Hodapp finished sixth with a time of 14:51.52. McDonnell finished 22nd with a time of 15:34.68, senior Brian Tabb finished 26th with a time of 15:40.85, freshman Kirk Smith finished 27th with a time of 15:41.26, senior Emmett Cookson finished 29th with a time of 15:45.73 and freshman Adam Roderique finished 30th with a time of 15:47.67.

Lybarger finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 16.23 meters (53-3), while Tulsa's 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Otugo Ananaba, Frazier, Silva and senior Andrew Jameson finished eighth with a time of 3:14.14.

On the women's side, Jean-Baptiste finished second in the 400-meter dash final round with a time of 53.23, which is the second fastest time in school history. Camp finished fifth with a time of 54.24.

Sophomore Olivia Lopez finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run final round with a time of 4:35.10 and sophomore Olivia O'Hare finished eighth with a time of 4:37.20.

The Golden Hurricane had four runners finish in the top-10 of the 5,000-meter run. Junior Brandi Krieg led TU with a fourth-place finish time of 17:04.17, followed by Langley, who finished fifth with a time of 17:11.32, junior Natasha Cockram, who finished sixth with a time of 17:14.20 and freshman Stacie Taylor, who finished 10th with a time of 17:33.08.

Lopez finished 12th with a time of 17:38.90, while sophomore Janessa Dunn finished 16th with a time of 17:44.10, sophomore Emily Dunn finished 18th with a time of 17:52.42 and freshman Danielle Medearis finished 21st with a time of 18:02.97.

Tulsa's 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Roos-Sanne Claassen, sophomore Alex Lyons, freshman Lauren Thomas and freshman Cydney Fogle finished 14th with a time of 3:49.36.

The Golden Hurricane travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA West Regional from May 28-31. The top-48 in each event in the regional gets invited for the event.
