Five Tulsa Athletes Run Day One of the NCAA Midwest Regional

The University of Tulsa's track and field team had five athletes competed on the first day of the NCAA Midwest Regional at Ed Weir Stadium on the University of Nebraska campus in Lincoln, Neb. The Golden Hurricane is scheduled to have three athletes compete tomorrow in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Junior April Montgomery qualified for the 400m hurdles final after finishing fifth in her heat and eighth overall with a time of 1:01.36. The women's final of 400m hurdles is scheduled for 5:40 p.m. tomorrow.
Freshman Jennifer Mace just missed out qualifying for the 400m final after placing ninth overall in the preliminary with a time of 54.26.
Fellow freshman Ashley Aitken placed 13th overall in the 800m preliminary in a time of 2:11.18.
On the men's side, both John Beattie and Edwin Henshaw were unable to qualify for nationals in 5,000m. Beattie finished 11th out of the 23 man field with a time of 14:11.32, while Henshaw placed 20th in a time of 14:39.15.
TU will have three scheduled in action tomorrow: senior Katy McGillen in the women's javelin at 1 p.m., red-shirt freshman Mark Davidson in the men's 1,500m at 4:30 p.m. and Montgomery in the women's 400m hurdles at 5:40 p.m.
