DES MOINES, Iowa - Senior Carl Stones finished eighth in the finals of the 3,000m Steeplechase at the 2012 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships Saturday morning at Drake Stadium.

He crossed the line in a mark of 8:46.67, and he earned one point for Tulsa in the overall national team standings.

Stones was the first Tulsa runner to ever advance to the NCAA Championships in the steeplechase, and he made it count with his All-American performance.

"Carl did a great job, beyond great," Tulsa head coach Steve Gulley said. "He went into his first national event and was able to make it to the finals. He ran a great race today."

Junior Chris O'Hare placed 12th in the finals of the 1,500m run with a time of 3:51.64.

"Chris' race was tough because he has had such a great year," Gulley said. "He needed to go with about 300m to go, and he was just flat. It was the wrong time to have an off race, but he'll learn from this experience and he'll be back next year."
