NEW ORLEANS -

Tulsa senior Chris O’Hare was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I Midwest Region Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, the organization announced today.

A senior from Edinburgh, Scotland, O’Hare smashed the collegiate record in the indoor mile during the Wanamaker Mile at the 106th Millrose Games with a time 3:52.98.  O’Hare won his fourth-straight Conference USA mile title, his third-straight 800-meter crown in the league, and was a member of the winning DMR at the conference meet this season. He also holds a top-14 national time with a school-record at 800 meters of 1:48.28, which happens to be the TU school record.

O’Hare was also named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Athlete of the Year during the 2012 cross country season. In addition, O’Hare was added to the Bowerman Award watch list, compiled by the USTFCCCA, which is collegiate track and field’s highest honor.
