Tulsa's Mace and Korosi Get Multiple Wins at Tulsa Duels

Tulsa, Okla. - In the first outdoor meet of the season, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's and women's track and field teams combined to win seven events at the 2008 Tulsa Duels on Saturday at the Hurricane Track and Soccer Stadium.
The Tulsa women claimed four first-place performances, while the Hurricane men finished in first place in three events.
The Hurricane team had outstanding performances in the sprint events, as the highlight of the day came in the 100 and 200-meters where both the Tulsa men and women took the top-two places.
For the men, sophomore Attila Korosi clocked a first-place time of 10.96, while senior teammate O'Dell Smith finished with a time of 11.01 for second place in the 100 meters. Freshman Lamar Elison placed fourth for the Hurricane with a time of 11.33.
Korosi also claimed first-place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.64, while freshman Jonathan Moore finished in fifth-place with a time of 22.26.
Tulsa placed one-two-three in the women's 200 meters as Mace captured her second top finish with a time of 24.06, while Ford and freshman Ashley Wills finished in second and third place, respectively. Ford clocked a time of 24.83 and Wills finished the 200 in a time of 25.28.
Tulsa junior Dawn Nagazina ran a time of 2:12.99 to claim first-place in the 800 meters.
Running the final leg for Tulsa, Mace led the Hurricane to a victory in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Wills, April Montgomery, Nagazina and Mace clocked a time of 3:53.27 to outdistance ORU's time of 3:55.06.
In the men's 4x400 meter relay, Korosi narrowly missed catching ORU's Scott McElroy for first place, as the Golden Eagles edged the Golden Hurricane, 3:15.47 to 3:15.57 for Tulsa. Jonathan Moore, Jerrod Landress and O'Dell Smith ran the first three legs of the event for the Hurricane.
Other top performances for the Hurricane men in the running events included red-shirt freshman Mark Davidson's, second-place performance in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.18. Tulsa junior Kris Karnes also placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.28.
Oklahoma State's Teran Mixon edged Tulsa's Maryke Rossouw in the last 10 meters to grab the victory in the 1,500-meters. Rossouw clocked a time of 4:44.17 behind Mixon's 4:44.05 time. Junior Petrina Lamb finished in fourth place in the 1,5000 meters for Tulsa with a time of 4:53.86.
The Hurricane also had some top performances in the field events.
Freshman Kelsey Klein began the duel meet with a second-place performance in the women's hammer throw, an event that took place on the campus of Oklahoma State University on Friday afternoon. Her best throw was 49.04 meters, finishing behind OSU's Deleanor Kirkpatrick's throw of 51.88. Tulsa sophomore Morgan Bolom placed fourth with a throw of 35.50m.
Tulsa senior Kyle McGillen was the first Hurricane athlete to garner a first-place finish as he captured the men's long jump title with a personal-best jump of 22-11.7.5.
Sophomore Caitlin Clancy placed second in the women's pole vault 11-05.7, while freshman Breanna Steel placed third in the high jump with a school record jump of 5-05.00, eclipsing the previous mark of 5-04.00. Senior Katy McGillen turned in fourth-place finish in the high jump with a personal-best of 5-03.00 fifth-place performance in the javelin with a throw of 139-09.
