May 5, 2005
Tulsa, Okla. - University of Tulsa track and field athletes Clif Mitchell, a junior from Edmond, Okla., and Mathew Musengezi, a sophomore from Harare, Zimbabwe, have registered two of the top-four times in the Western Athletic Conference this outdoor season and are hoping to provide a dangerous 1-2 punch for the Golden Hurricane in the 800-meters at the WAC Championships.
Musengezi, who currently has the second best time in the WAC, began his Tulsa career this winter. His first career victory came at the indoor JD Martin Invitational, Feb. 5, with a time of 2:34.52 in the 1,000-meter run. Musengezi won his second race for the Golden Hurricane, his first outdoors, as he finished with a time of 1:54.00 in the 800-meter at the Tulsa Duels.

SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., April 15, Musengezi ran a time of 1:49.96, to qualify him for the NCAA regional championships in Norman, Okla., with the third best time in school history. The 1:54.00 set a new meet record for the Tulsa Duels. Musengezi has turned in two second places finishes as well, the Michael Johnson Classic and the Ole Miss Invitational.
Clif Mitchell hasn't let Musengezi have all the 800-meter glory. Mitchell has consistently run in the 1:52.00-range. Mitchell turned in a first place finish at the Missouri Relays. At the Michael Johnson Classic, Mitchell finished one place behind Musengezi in third place, running his best time of the season, a 1:51.39, the fourth best time in the WAC.
