IRVING, Texas - Senior All-American Carl Stones was named the co-Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, the league announced today.

Stones became Tulsa's first outdoor USTFCCCA All-America First Team selection when he finished eighth (8:46.67) in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 2012 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships.

The senior also won the event at the 2012 C-USA Outdoor Championships for the second-straight year as he broke the meet record with a time of 8:53.39.

The Round Rock, Texas, native earned 18 points for Tulsa at the league meet as he won the steeplechase and finished second in the 5,000m.

He also owns the school record in the steeplechase of 8:43.79, which he set earlier this season at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Stones shared Conference USA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year honors with Errol Nolan of Houston. Tulsa has won at least a share of the award in three of the last four years (John Beattie won outright in both 2009 and 2010).
