Tulsa, Okla. -
The University of Tulsa head track and field coach Steve Gulley announced the appointment of Summer Hutcheson as an assistant coach. In addition to day-to-day operations, Hutcheson will assist the Golden Hurricane sprinters and field event athletes.
Hutcheson comes to TU from Minot State University in Minot, N.D., where she served as an assistant coach for the Beavers last year. She assisted MSU's 2003 men's cross country squad to an NAIA national championship, as well as helped the sprinters and middle distance runners on track teams. She coached one All-American in the 55-meters and one national semi-finalist in the 800-meters last season. Hutcheson also assisted with recruiting, fundraising and administrative duties for the MSU program.
Prior to arriving at Minot State, Hutcheson coached the cross country and track & field programs at Faith Academy in Mobile, Ala. She led both the boys and the girls to dual state championships in 2002-03. Her girl's 4x100-meter and 4x800-meter relay teams broke state records. One of Hutcheson's athletes was also named the state meet's MVP.
Hutcheson has also served on the staff of the Mountain High Running Camp in Brevard, N.C., as an instructor.
