02/15/2012 Tulsa XC Squads Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic DistinctionBoth men, women cross country teams pick up academic honor 12/09/2011 Three Named to All-C-USA Academic TeamMartin, Stones, Whiting all each earn second-career academic honor 11/21/2011 Tulsa Finishes 25th At NCAA XC ChampionshipHeyes paces TU with 64th-place finish, Whiting takes 49th 11/20/2011 TU Men, Whiting Head To NCAA ChampionshipsMen will run at 11:08 a.m., women to compete at 11:58 a.m. 11/14/2011 4 Land On All-Midwest Region TeamStones, Pinheiro, Davies, Whiting all earn regional accolades PERSONAL BESTS SENIOR (2011): Participated in six meets, including his first trip to the NCAA Championship . . . finished 215th overall and sixth on the team in Terre Haute with a 10K mark of 32:01.08 . . . finished fourth overall at the Conference USA Championship and led the Golden Hurricane to its third league crown in four years with a career-best 8K mark of 24:01.5 . . . took 25th at the NCAA Midwest Regional (31:55.15) . . . was named to the all-C-USA First Team and the All-Midwest Region Team . . . also landed on the All-Academic Team . . . finished eighth at the Houston Duel (19:42) . . . ran at both the OSU Jamboree (24:50.18) and NCAA Pre-Nationals (25:08). JUNIOR (2010): Competed in five events and was an integral part of the TU squad that captured the Conference USA title . . . posted a career-low 8K time of 24:10 and finished seventh overall at the C-USA Championship . . . earned a spot on the all-C-USA First Team and the All-Academic Team . . . finished 43rd overall with a career-best 10K of 31:11.28 at the NCAA Midwest Regional . . . placed 37th overall at the Notre Dame Invitational, and also competed at Pre-Nationals . . . ran a career-best four-mile of 20:06 in the season-opening Hurricane Festival, posting a seventh-place finish . . . paced TU at Pre-Nationals, finished third on the team three times and finished fourth once. SOPHOMORE (2009): Ran in four meets and was named to the Conference USA Third Team . . . he tied his career-best time of 25:38 in the 8K at the Notre Dame Invitational and he set his personal record in the 10K when he clocked in at 32:59 at the NCAA Midwest Regional . . . finished 16th at the C-USA Championship and placed 65th at the Midwest Regional. FRESHMAN (2008): Ran in two meets . . . named to the All-Conference USA Third Team after finishing 17th at the C-USA Championships with a personal-best time of 25:38 . . . finished 76th at regionals with a time of 33:05. HIGH SCHOOL: A four-time letterwinner in track and cross country . . . named all-state during his senior campaign . . . was district mile champion with a personal-best time of 4:18 set at the Schrader 1600 as a senior . . . set the school record in the 3200m (9:25) at the prestigious Texas Relays during his senior year . . . won the regional cross country championship as a junior . . . finished in the top-5 at the state cross country championships running the 5K course in a personal-best time of 15:52 during his junior season . . . a three-time cross country team captain . . . high school head coach was Andy Jackson. PERSONAL: Majoring in exercise sport science . . . as a youngster his school bus stop was one of the first stops on the route and about once every week he would give his backpack to a friend and race the bus to school . . . enjoys camping, disc golf and triathlons . . . son of Dave Stones and Christy Swanteson . . . has an older brother, Daniel . . . born November 1, 1989. |
