TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa cross country teams held the annual Hurricane Cross Country Festival Saturday morning to begin the 2013 cross country season.

Juniors Natasha Cockram and Brian Tabb and sophomore Marc Scott were the top individual finishers for the Golden Hurricane. Cockram ran the women's two-mile race in 11:15 to place second overall. Tabb placed 15th and Scott 16th with times of 21:01 in the men's four-mile race.

"I'm just happy to get it in. I think the heat this week kind of changed up a lot of thoughts on the races. There is only so much you can do when the temperature is this high. It was more of, let some young kids get out there and race. I was pleased," Tulsa Head Coach Steve Gulley said. "Maybe it was a little bit cooler than we thought, but we went in with a gameplan just to run safe and get a race in at this point. We're fortunate we're not held accountable for the early races. It was just a chance for our young people to get out there and get the nerves settled."

TU sophomore Rachel Baptista followed Cockram with a third-place time of 11:16, while freshman Olivia Lopez finished seventh with a time of 11:37, freshman Clara Langley placed 10th with a time of 11:45, and senior Katherine Camp ran a time of 11:55 to place 14th.

Tabb and Scott were followed on the men's side by junior Emmett Cookson, who ran a time of 21:59. Freshmen Dallas Elmore and Nick Criser finished the race in 23:09 to place 23rd and 24th, respectively.

Adela Hofmanova of Oklahoma State placed first in the women's two-mile run with a time of 11:14, while Neal Smith of Oklahoma State earned the men's individual win with a four-mile time of 20:18.

The Tulsa women finished 3-1 in the team duel competition, finishing ahead of Oklahoma (21-34), Louisiana-Monroe (15-40) and Missouri State (15-40). Oklahoma State claimed a narrow 27-30 victory over TU.

The Hurricane men dropped its duel competitions, falling to Oklahoma State (50-15), Oklahoma (46-15) and ULM (33-22).

The Golden Hurricane returns to action at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sept. 21.
