Fresh off a team title at the Hurricane Festival one week ago, The University of Tulsa men's cross country team finished second behind No. 3-ranked Arkansas at the Fayetteville Invitational on Friday evening. The TU women also finished second in the team race, behind the 15th-ranked Lady 'backs.
Senior Owain Matthews again led the Golden Hurricane's charge over the 4-mile run with a third place finish in a time of 20:32.77. Fellow senior Ben Orozco along with sophomore Taylor Williams also finished among the top-10 runners. Orozco placed eighth with a time of 20:36.94, while Williams placed 10th with a time of 21:09.2.
On the women's side, senior Monica Joannes finished eighth overall to lead the Hurricane charge, in a time of 18:16.97, over the 5,000-meter course. Sophomores Megan Langwell and Tami Scott finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Langwell recorded a time of 18:30.91, while Scott's time of 18:38.92 was just ahead of junior Natalie Rasmussen's 11th place time of 18:41.74.
Both of TU's cross country teams will be off until Sept. 20th, when they travel to Joplin, Mo., for the Southern Stampede.
