JOPLIN, Mo. - Due to heavy rains that have settled in over the Joplin area this morning and into the afternoon, the running of the 23rd annual Missouri Southern Stampede has been canceled.

Nearly three inches of rain have fallen in Joplin today, forcing the first-ever cancellation of the event.

The Golden Hurricane cross country squads will next be in action at the Cowboy Jamboree Oct. 1 in Stillwater, Okla.
