Springfield, Mo. - The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams turned in second place finishes on Saturday morning at the Missouri State Classic in Springfield, Mo.
Junior Melanie Cleland finished second overall in the women's 5K race with a time of 17:25.4, and freshman Mitch Johnson placed third in the men's 8K race in 25:41.2.
The 11th-ranked men's team finished second out six teams with 56 points, trailing Kansas State who took first place with 42 points. The Hurricane had three runners cross the finish line in the top five spots overall, led by Johnson's third-place finish.
Sophomore Bill Martin placed fourth in 25:42.4 followed by junior Brett Koehn who finished fifth with a time of 25:55.7.
The women's team took second place with 52 points, finishing behind Kansas State who won the event with 27 points.
Freshman Jaclyn Rollins finished seventh with a time of 17:59.2 in the 5K course, followed by senior Lana Kelley in 13th place in 18:30.1 and freshman Erin Huddleston in 14th place in 18:30.6.
The Hurricane is back in action on Oct. 2-3 at the Cowboy Jamboree and Notre Dame Invitational.
