Joplin, Mo. - Senior All-American Alex Becker won the individual title in the women's 5k race to lead the Tulsa women's cross country team to a first-place finish at the Southern Stampede on Saturday morning in Joplin, Mo.

Becker blew away the competition finishing the race with a time of 16:36, which was 39 seconds faster than second-place finisher Kelly Waters from Oklahoma. The Hurricane placed seven runners in the top-20, including a third-place finish from sophomore Katie Wright (17:22) and fifth-place performance from junior Dawn Nagazina (17:46).

This marks the second-consecutive victory for the women's team, who won the Hurricane Festival on August 30.

The men's team was led freshman Daniel LePage who finished in 11th place, running the 8k course in 25:34. Sophomore Patrick McConnell placed 34th with a time of 26:25, and freshman Bill Martin finished in 40th-place with a time of 26:35. With only three runners competing, the men's team was unable to qualify for final team scoring.

Up next for the Tulsa cross country teams is the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3.
