SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Chris O'Hare ran the 8K race in 23:33 and led No. 20 Tulsa to the men's team championship, defeating nine other ranked opponents, at the 2012 Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational Friday afternoon.

The Golden Hurricane totaled 104 points, besting second-place No. 17 Princeton by 35 points, to top the 20-team field. TU produced four of the top 15 finishers in the race, led by O'Hare's personal record time. Senior Paulo Pinheiro finished eighth with a personal-best time of 23:55, sophomore Dennis Hodapp placed 13th with a personal-best 24:01, and Andrew Heyes finished 15th with a time of 24:05. Sophomore Danny Thater rounded out the Tulsa scoring with a 67th-place time of 24:39, a personal record.

"They ran great," Tulsa Head Coach Steve Gulley said. "We came up here to win the race, that was the plan. We hadn't done any speed work, so we didn't know what was going to happen. You never know what's going to happen when you turn the lights on, but they did it. They boys did great. Chris is a good racer, and he stepped up and led his team. We had four guys leading at three miles, and they put themselves in a good position."

The Hurricane women finished 12th as a team in the 5K with 282 points. Senior Sarah Macpherson was Tulsa's top finisher, coming in 15th in a personal-best time of 17:02. Senior Erin Huddleston placed 51st with a personal-best time of 17:29, junior Josie Wilcox ran a 17:38 to finish 70th, senior Melanie Hughes ran a personal record 17:41 to finish 74th, and Brandi Krieg rounded out the TU scoring with a 78th-place finish with a time of 17:44.

The Golden Hurricane returns to action Oct. 13 when it travels to Louisville, Ky., for the Pre-Nationals meet.
