STILLWATER, Okla. - The University of Tulsa cross country teams recorded high finishes at the OSU Jamboree Saturday morning at the OSU Cross Country Course. The women finished fifth in the 6K event, while the men posted a sixth-place finish in the 8K race.

This was the first time in 2011 that the top runners for both the men and women competed, and both teams had to face some stiff competition.

"This is the fastest we've ever run on this course, but we didn't get out there and beat the top teams like we wanted," TU head coach Steve Gulley said. "There's a difference between winning and losing, and we have to be more accountable if we want to compete at this level. There were more positives today than negatives, but I know we can do better against these teams."

WOMEN
Tulsa finished fifth with 133 points. The No. 23-ranked host Cowgirls took home top honors with 73 points. Indiana was second with 81 points and Western State, the No. 1-ranked Division II college, placed third with 107 points. Northern Arizona was the other team to finish ahead of TU with 130 points.

"I praised the girls after the race because they ran well, the only problem is they went out a bit too hard and we weren't able to put up a fight in the last mile," Gulley said.

Senior Paula Whiting paced the women with her 13th-place finish. She crossed the line in 17:46.13, and has finished first on the team in all three of her races this season.

Junior Ashley Scott was the second member of the Golden Hurricane to finish, as she placed 18th in 17:58.54. Redshirt freshman Lauren Collette (30th in 18:13.77), true freshman Brandi Krieg (35th in 18:22.39) and junior Jaclyn Rollins (37th in 18:25.27) rounded out the team score.

The other members to compete for TU were junior Sarah Macpherson (42nd in 18:27.40), true freshman Natasha Cockram (52nd in 18:38.92) and junior Melanie Hughes (143rd in 20:47.23).
