Terre Haute, Ind. - The University of Tulsa men's cross country team finished seventh and the women placed 18th in the White Races at the Pre-Nationals on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind. Alex Becker guided the women's team with a seventh-place finish in the women's 6K course with a time of 20:28, and John Beattie led the men by running the 8K race in 23:41 for an eighth-place finish.

The 19th-ranked men's squad finished seventh out of 40 teams with a combined total of 212 points. Tulsa came in ahead of four nationally-ranked teams including No. 3 Colorado (9th), No. 11 Iowa State (10th), No. 21 Texas (27th) and No. 30 Michigan State (14th).

The men's team placed four runners in the top-50 with John Beattie finishing 8th (23:41), Eddie Henshaw in 28th (24:09), Lewis Timmins in 41st (24:21) and Mark Davidson in 49th (24:24).

The women's team had a steep drop off after Alex Becker's seventh-place finish, by having only two other runners finish in the top half of the field of 281 runners. Dawn Nagazina finished 95th with a time of 21:51, and Katie Wright placed 128th in 22:08. The Hurricane finished 18th out of 38 teams, including 10 nationally-ranked squads.



The University of Tulsa cross country teams will run next at the Conference USA Championships on Nov. 1 hosted by The University of Memphis.
