AMES, Iowa - Chris O'Hare won the individual title with a 10K time of 30:28.0 to lead the Tulsa men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Friday afternoon at the Iowa State Cross Country Course.

With the second-place finish, the Golden Hurricane men automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, which take place Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind. TU earned its first-ever automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

The Hurricane scored 57 points, finishing just 12 points behind Oklahoma State, which totaled 45 team points. TU was 56 points ahead of third-place Iowa State. The Tulsa women's team finished 12th with 309 points in the 6K race.

"We're excited, we're ready to go back to the big dance," Tulsa Head Coach Steve Gulley said. "We still have one more race to evaluate how this season is going to be. We're glad we have that opportunity."

All five TU scorers placed among the top-30 finishers. Marc Scott finished fifth in the 10K race with a time of 30:34.9, while Andrew Heyes followed with a sixth-place time of 30:35.6. Danny Thater ran a 30:50.5 to finish 16th, and Tim Rackers rounded out the scoring with a 29th-place time of 31:08.1

Natasha Cockram led the Hurricane women with a 34th-place 6K time of 21:23.0. Rachel Baptista placed 45th with a time of 1:34.0, Brandi Krieg ran 21:45.7 to finish 60th, Emily Dunn placed 82nd with a time of 21:55.8, and Janessa Dunn rounded out the scoring with a time of 21:58.9 to finish 88th.

"We were off a little bit. We didn't run two of the girls that we ran at the conference (championships). But I was kind of happy. We're still a couple of spots off where we need to be, but I thought they put out a good effort," Gulley said.
