Tulsa XC Squads Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Distinction

NEW ORLEANS - The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams were named to the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2012 Division I All-Academic teams, it was announced today. The Golden Hurricane men posted a 3.48 team grade-point average this past year, which was the second highest amongst Conference USA institutions. The other C-USA recipients on the men's side were Memphis (3.59), Tulane (3.34), Rice (3.17) and UTEP (3.14). There were a total of 147 teams who earned all-academic status from 30 conferences. The Golden Hurricane women recorded a 3.57 grade-point average, which ranked as the fourth-best in the league. The other C-USA recipients were Southern Miss (3.80), Rice (3.64), Tulane (3.59), SMU (3.56), UAB (3.45), Marshall (3.38), Memphis (3.34), East Carolina (3.32), and UTEP (3.25). There were a total of 205 women's teams who earned all-academic status from 30 conferences. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship. TU had one USTFCCCA All-Academic member in All-American Paula Whiting. The Golden Hurricane also had three C-USA All-Academic Team members in Whiting and seniors Bill Martin and Carl Stones. Georgetown University was named the women's scholar team of the year and the University of Wisconsin was named the men's scholar team of the year.
