Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa head men's and women's cross country coach Steve Gulley today unveiled the schedule for the upcoming 2010 campaign.

The schedule includes five regular-season meets, and the year will be capped off as the Golden Hurricane will host the Conference USA Championships at the end of the campaign for the first time in 10 years.

"It's a huge advantage to host the championship because the kids get to run on their home course, but it also adds a lot more pressure," Gulley said. "We have a great opportunity, but the key will be how we capitalize on the opportunity that's given."

The last time Tulsa was host to the conference championship was in 2000, when the Golden Hurricane were a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

The season ends at home, but it will also begin in Tulsa as TU kicks things off as hosts of the Hurricane Invitational Sept. 4.

"I like to use that opening meet to see what kind of summer everybody had and get an idea of where the fall is going to go," Gulley said.

Tulsa will then travel to Joplin, Mo., for the Missouri Southern Stampede Sept. 18. Following the meet in the Show Me State will be a trip to Stillwater, Okla., as TU will compete in the OSU Cowboy Jamboree Sept. 25.

The fourth run of the season will be Oct. 1 in South Bend, Ind., as the Golden Hurricane will compete in the Notre Dame Invitational. The Pre-NCAA Nationals will be Oct. 16 in Terre Haute, Ind., and the C-USA Championships will be Nov. 1 in Tulsa.

The Midwest Regional Championships are scheduled for Nov. 13 in Peoria, Ill., and the NCAA Championships will be Nov. 22 in Terre Haute.

"We like to stay in the same pattern with our scheduling, and I feel like we've done that this year," Gulley said. "We like our routine and our schedule, and this should give us the best chance to be successful this season."

The Tulsa men are coming off a successful 2009 campaign that saw them narrowly miss out on becoming back-to-back C-USA champions. The Golden Hurricane were defeated by a single point as UTEP held the crown at seasons' end. TU has finished either first or second at the conference championship in all but one year dating back to the 2003 season.

The Tulsa women finished fourth in C-USA last year, and they have finished fourth or better every season since joining the league in 2005.
