TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa men's cross country team is ranked No. 5 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Coaches' Poll released Tuesday.

The No. 5 national ranking is the highest-ever position for the Golden Hurricane in the coaches' poll. Tulsa's previous high position was No. 9 last October.

The TU men were also ranked No. 2 in the Midwest Regional rankings, while the TU women came in at No. 4 in the Midwest Region.

The Golden Hurricane opens the 2013 season with the Hurricane Cross Country Festival Saturday at Mohawk Park. The men's university race begins at 8 a.m., and the women's race begins at 8:35 a.m. Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Louisiana-Monroe will compete against Tulsa on the men's side, while those four schools plus Missouri State will compete on the women's side.
