Aug. 31, 2006

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa men's and women's cross country teams will begin the 2006 season when they host the Hurricane Cross Country Festival on Saturday, September 2, at Mohawk Park in Tulsa.

The races will begin at 8 a.m. with the men running first and the women to follow at approximately 8:35 a.m.

The Hurricane Cross Country Festival will feature runners from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri Southern and Central Oklahoma in addition to the Golden Hurricane.

The men's squad will feature five runners who finished 21st or higher at the Conference USA cross country championship last season. The Golden Hurricane, who won the Hurricane Festival a year ago, will be led by junior Brett Turowski who finished fourth at the festival last season and posted an eighth place finish at last season's C-USA championship.

The women's team will be led by senior Lise Olivier, as the Golden Hurricane look to win their second-straight Hurricane Festival title. Olivier, who finished ninth at the C-USA championship, will look to improve on her second place finish at the festival last season. Sophomore Alex Becker hopes to follow in kind after a third place finish a year ago.

Mohawk Park is located at 5631 East 36th street north in Tulsa, approximately four miles north of I-44 and Tulsa International Airport.
