Nov. 22, 2013
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The No. 9 Tulsa men's cross country team is poised to run at the NCAA Championship Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's 10K race begins at 11 a.m. CT.
The Golden Hurricane reached the NCAA Championship by earning an automatic bid for the first time in school history. TU placed second at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Nov. 15.
The Hurricane is led by senior Chris O'Hare, the individual champion of the Midwest Regional. Senior Andrew Heyes, juniors Danny Thater and Tim Rackers, and sophomore Marc Scott have comprised the Tulsa scorers in each of the last three meets - Pre-Nationals, the C-USA Championship and the Midwest Regional Championship.
Tulsa finished seventh at the national championship race last year, and comes into the 2013 Championship ranked ninth in the nation.
TU ran at the Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 19 on the same course in Terre Haute, finishing fifth in a 52-team race. The Hurricane also claimed the Conference USA Championship earlier this season.
