TULSA, Okla. -

Senior Andrew Heyes, after a stellar fall cross country campaign, will compete for Great Britain at the 2012 SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Saturday.

Heyes will compete in the 8K under-23 race, which is set to begin at 5:55 a.m. CT. This marks the first senior call-up for Heyes.

A native of Sheffield, Yorkshire, Heyes helped the Golden Hurricane harriers to claim seventh-place at the NCAA Cross Country Championships by running a 10K personal best of 30:10.7. He holds a personal best time of 23:42.4 in the 8K, which he set at the NCAA Pre-National Meet en route to a 15th place finish.

“It’s a great honor for Andy,” commented Head Coach Steve Gulley. “I’m happy that he is going to get some experience running against international competition. I think that he is very proud to represent his country, and that is important to us and him.”

The race will also be streamed live online here.
