Tulsa Cross Country Lands Three Athletes on C-USA All-Academic Teams

Irving, Texas - Tulsa's John Beattie, Bill Martin and Lana Kelley were named to the Conference USA All-Academic teams, as announced today by the league office. The Golden Hurricane's three honorees were the most selections from any school in the conference.
The teams were made up of six male and seven female student-athletes with a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and were regular participants on the team.
John Beattie was named to the men's all-academic team for the second-straight season after posting a 3.37 grade point average in the master's of business administration program. Beattie was named the C-USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season after winning the C-USA individual title for the second year in a row. He was also named to the All-C-USA First Team for the second-straight year, while earning C-USA Outstanding Senior of the Year honors.
Bill Martin earned all-academic accolades for earning a 3.89 GPA in biochemistry. Martin, a sophomore from Overland Park, Kan., competed in five meets this season and finished 24th at the C-USA Championship with a time of 26:16 in the 8K race. He also turned in a pair of top-10 finishes this year, placing fourth at the Missouri State Classic and 10th at the Hurricane Festival.
Lana Kelley was named to the women's team with a 3.37 GPA in nursing. Kelley, a senior from Edmond, Okla., finished 22nd at the conference championship meet and 57th at the NCAA Midwest Regionals. She turned in a season-best performance of 18:30 in the 5K course to finish 13th overall at the Missouri State Classic on Sept. 5.
