Men's Basketball Drops 79-61 Decision at Marshall

Harrison and Woodard each scored 12 points, while Ray tallied 11 points to lead the Golden Hurricane (9-7, 1-1 C-USA). Harrison added five assists and three steals, while Kauri Black picked up five steals for TU. Elijah Pittman led the Thundering Herd (8-8, 1-0 C-USA) with 19 points.
Tulsa shot 37 percent from the field, including 46 percent in the second half after shooting 28 percent in the first, and had a season-high 15 steals. Marshall shot 45 percent from the field, and held a 47-32 advantage in rebounds.
In the first half, Marshall used a 19-0 run while keeping the Hurricane scoreless for 8:21 to turn a 6-5 TU advantage into a 24-6 Herd lead. Tulsa briefly stopped the run with a 6-0 spurt of its own with a pair of Woodard free throws and jumper sandwiched around a Haralson turnaround jumper.
The Thundering Herd, however, went on another 17-3 run to push its lead to 41-15, and took a 43-20 lead into halftime. The Herd shot 49 percent in the first half, while TU shot 28 percent from the field.
Tulsa outscored Marshall in the second half, 41-36. The Herd led, 55-26 with 15:12 remaining, and the Hurricane pulled as close as 15 points at 76-61, with 1:07 left in the game.
The Golden Hurricane returns home to the Donald W. Reynolds Center play host to Rice at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
