Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa used a 16-7 run in the final in the final 3:05 of the game to claim a 79-72 victory over East Carolina in the quarterfinal round of the Conference USA Basketball Championship on Thursday night at the downtown Tulsa BOK Center in front of 7,050 fans.

The fifth-seeded Hurricane defeated No. 4 seed East Carolina to advance to Friday's 5:30 pm semifinal game against the No. 1 seed and the 20th-ranked Memphis Tigers. Tulsa improved to 17-14 on the season, while the Pirates fell to 18-12.

Tulsa junior guard Pat Swilling knocked down a three-pointer to give the Golden Hurricane its' first lead of the second half with 2:35 remaining and Tulsa never looked back. In the final 2:04, Tulsa's Scottie Haralson tallied seven points and freshman guard Shaquille Harrison knocked down six points to propel the Hurricane to the win.

Haralson ended the game with a team-high 22 points, while freshman James Woodard scored 17 points, all coming in the second half. Fellow freshmen Shaquille Harrison and D'Andre Wright added 12 and 10 points respectively. East Carolina's Maurice Kemp had game-highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds.

ECU took an eight-point lead, 48-40, at the 11:44 mark of the second half. Tulsa cut it to one point on a D'Andre Wright layup with 9:04 remaining on the game clock. The Pirates built there lead back up to six points twice before the Hurricane took the eventual lead for good with 2:35 left on the game clock.

Tulsa began the game scoring on a Tim Peete layup and took its largest lead of the first half at the 10:25 mark with a 14-6 lead on a free throw by Pat Swilling. East Carolina cut the lead to one-point at 14-13 in two Kemp free throws, and took its first lead at 15-14 on a Miguel Paul jumper.

From the 8:30 mark, the first half stayed under two points with both teams taking leads until Akeem Richmond's three-pointer made the score 26-22 at the 2:23 mark.

The Pirates built the lead to a five-point halftime lead at 30-25 when Robert Sampson scored on a layup with 0:41 remaining.
