Tulsa Coach & Player Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach Doug Wojcik

Opening Statement...
"I'd like to apologize because we didn't compete today. I appreciate the fans for coming out and the OU fans for being here. I love the relationship we have with The University of Oklahoma and we did not give them a game today. You can look at the stat sheet and see a lot of things, it just depends on where you want to point the finger. I give them credit, because like I said before the game Blake Griffin is great player and Taylor Griffin is a great compliment to him."

On the first half...

"They hit us right there with those two three-pointers and obviously Blake Griffin is really strong and we didn't get enough pressure on him. It is a reoccurring theme that I don't want to here with our start against Oklahoma State and now Oklahoma. We have to prevent that from happening."

On Oklahoma's defensive pressure...
"We knew it was going to happen and they were probably going to send two people at Ben Uzoh. Joe Richard did a good job handling the ball but that does take Ben Uzoh out of the game, and when Ben is out of the game you all know how dependent we are on his ability to run this team and make shots. I thought that their pressure was pretty effective."

On the tough week with two losses...
"A week ago we were playing for a tournament championship against Illinois, and we were playing hard and doing a lot of great things in the South Padre tournament. It is amazing how fragile the psyche of a team is, because we were so stunned that we went to Ohio University and lost. They were a good team and had a good home-court advantage, but we have to bounce back."

Junior Guard Ben Uzoh
On Oklahoma's offensive and defensive performance...
"We didn't do a good job shooting the ball and when they got the rebound they did a good job of pushing it in transition and getting easy baskets. We didn't do a good job taking care of the basketball, and when you don't shoot well and don't take care of the ball you don't win."

On the early 20-3 deficit...
"It's tough but we have to come together as a unit and continue to fight and claw, and do the things that we do well. We have to do a better job of working on the things that we don't do well. It was just one of those games where it wasn't going our way tonight.

"We have to do a better job and get off to better starts. We have some things that we have to talk about and work on. I'm sure these next couple of practices are going to be pretty tough but we are going to come together as a unit and turn this thing around."

OKLAHOMA QUOTES

Head Coach Jeff Capel

On his teams' performance against Tulsa. . .
"I am pleased with this victory. I like the way we started the game. I thought we had good intensity and we got after it defensively. We played like we practiced the last two days. One of the things we wanted to do was keep constant pressure on Tulsa. Looking at stats and watching them on tape they have had trouble turning the ball over, so that was something we wanted to do. I thought our defense allowed us to get into transition to give us some easy opportunities. That was probably the best 20 minutes we have played all year. I thought the game got a little sloppy in the second half and I am not to pleased about that. This is a good win for us on the road and this is a good building block."

On getting players down on the depth chart playing time today. . .

"I have a lot of respect for the Tulsa basketball team. I think they are good and well coached, but we just jumped on them and we were able to build a lead. Coming into this game I decided we were going to play all of our guys. I thought they earned the right to play by the way they practiced on Thursday and Friday. We were able to get everyone in during the first half and they did a good job. I thought when they came in during the second half they gave us some good minutes. I thought our starters did a good job of following the scouting report, especially defensively."

On his team getting off to an 8-0 start. . .
"It is good to be 8-0. I expected us to win and for our team to be pretty good. I think we have been pretty good, but I think there is so much room for growth and improvement on this team. One of the things I thought during the first half was that it was the first time we shot the ball really well all year. We were 64% shooting in the first half and that started with defense. I don't think we have played our best basketball yet. We still have some guys who have struggled a little bit, but they looked like they were getting out of it and that was exciting. Our intensity has to be really good and constant for us. We have to rebound better and other guys besides Blake (Griffin) need to rebound."

Forward Blake Griffin
On getting out to an early lead after playing a lot of close games recently.  . .
"I think our practices were good and it determined the way that we played. Before the USC game we didn't have good practices and it showed in the way that we played. We then got together as a team and talked about what we needed to do and how we needed to have a better practice and we did that tonight.

On the teams 8-0 start. . .

"Overall we haven't been playing as well as we are capable of. I mean we show it sometimes, but we don't always come out and execute, bring energy and that it something we can always do.  Sometimes you can't control if you are making shots or not, but you can control how hard you go and that is something we need to get better at."

Guard Tony Crocker
On getting out to an early lead after playing a lot of close games recently.  . .
"It was how we practiced. Everybody was on the same page and the same level, and we just came out and played together and played our game."

On the teams 8-0 start. . .
"We have been successful so far, but we have a long way to go. I think we are playing really well, but at times we have letdowns. For the most part I think we are doing pretty well."
