Second Half Sends TCU Past Tulsa, 70-58

FORT WORTH, Texas - James Woodard recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Tulsa, but a 37-15 second-half run lead TCU to a 70-58 win Saturday afternoon at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
The Golden Hurricane (4-8) led 43-33 with 16:52 left in the game, but the Horned Frogs (8-3) outscored TU by 22 points over the remainder of the game. Kyan Anderson scored 25 points and Brandon Parrish added 17 points to lead TCU.
Tulsa extended its 36-29 halftime lead to 43-33 at the 16:52 mark of the second half on a layup by Lew Evans. Anderson then made a layup, sparking the long TCU run that peaked at 24-5 and held TU without a field goal for 10 minutes.
TCU took its first lead since the first points of the game at the 12:06 mark on a pair of free throws by Thomas Montigel that made the score 46-45. Following a layup by Tim Peete with 11:53 on the clock, the Horned Frogs took the lead for good on a tip-in by Jarvis Ray, putting TCU ahead 48-47 with 11:25 to play.
Woodard made a free throw at the 8:10 mark, making the score 53-48. The Hurricane did not score again until Rashad Smith, who tallied 12 points in the game, sunk a layup with 1:56 to play to pull Tulsa within 57-50. TU was down seven points with 1:01 remaining after a free throw by Rashad Ray, but that was as close as the Hurricane got for the remainder of the game.
Tulsa shot 39 percent (22-of-57) for the game, making five 3-pointers and 9-of-14 free throws. The Hurricane finished with a 37-35 advantage on the boards, and had 15 assists, but committed a season-high 18 turnovers leading to 16 points for the Horned Frogs. TCU shot 40 percent (22-of-55) from the field, and made six 3-pointers and 20-of-23 free throws. More than half - 30 - of the TU points were scored in the paint.
Tulsa broke a 6-6 tie early in the game with a 9-2 spurt fueled by 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions. Pat Swilling knocked down a three, followed two straight treys by Stevie Repichowksi to make the score 15-8 at the 12:53 mark.
Leading 19-17, the Golden Hurricane went on a run again, taking a 10-point advantage. The 8-0 run was bookended by Rashad Smith layups, giving TU a 27-17 lead. The Horned Frogs pulled as close as 32-27, but the Hurricane scored four of the final six points of the half to take a 36-29 lead into the locker room.
The Golden Hurricane will break for Christmas before traveling to Maryland for a contest against the Terrapins on Dec. 29. Game time is 6 p.m. CT, and the contest will be televised on ESPNU.
